ISC Newsletter - March 2007
I like to inform my clients not only about my new
discoveries in the slab yard, but also about general info that could be of interest. This issue of the ISC newsletter brings you both important info about granite and will showcase my stone picks of the month.

Granite Contributes to a Clean Kitchen
A study by Dr. O. Peter Snyder of the Hospitality
Institute of Technology and Management used ecoli
bacteria as its contaminating agent. The findings of
the report show significant cleanability advantages of
natural granite counter tops over almost all other
commonly found counter top surface materials.
Using six counter top surfaces for the test, granite was
ranked first in cleanability. After washing and rinsing,
the granite tops provided the greatest reduction in
bacteria counts of all the counter top materials tested
followed by stainless steel, concrete, tile, wood, and
plastic laminate.

Rosso Impero
Rosso Impero is a beautiful deep-red colored stone
which comes in enormous slabs that take a flawless
mirror polish. It has a similar density as granite but the
smooth pattern of veining that belongs to
marble.
Technical Data
Density :2650 Kg /m 3
Apparent Porosity : 0.67 %
Compressive Strength : 129.4 Mpa
Modulus of Rupture : 10.2 Mpa
Flexural Strength : 15.1 Mpa
Abrasion Resistance : 28.4

Inka Brown
Inka Brown is a marble that comes from Peru and is a
nice neutral alternative to more common materials
such as Crema Marfil or Emperador Light. It has a
richness in color that
makes it unique (and difficult to photograph) and has
a low absorption rating.
Technical Data
Density : 2.67 gr/cm3
Apparent Porosity : 0.34%
P.E.A.: 26.21 KN/m3
P.A.: 0.92%

Ocean Red
Ocean Red is a striking granite which ranges from
emerald green hues to garnet reds. It is made up
mainly of
Silicon Dioxide (51.64%) and Aluminum Oxide (17.09
%).
Silicon Dioxide typically comes in the form of silica or
quartz. Aluminium oxide is commonly found in
granites and contributes to its hardness. It is also
known as an excellent thermal and
electrical insulator. It has a position on the Mohs scale
of mineral hardness at a 9 out of 10 so the high levels
of this material in Ocean Red would make it nearly
indestructable in use as kitchen
surface, fireplace surround or flooring.
Technical Data
Weight in water : 55.32 gr /C
Weight Dry : 85.45 gr /A
Apparent Specific Gravity : 2.84 A/A -C
Water absorption : 0.18 B- A /A * 100
Specific Gravity Saturated : 2.83 B/B- C
Bulk Specific Gravity : 2.82 A/B-C
