It is made up
mainly of
Silicon Dioxide (51.64%) and Aluminum Oxide (17.09
%).

Silicon Dioxide typically comes in the form of silica or
quartz. Aluminium oxide is commonly found in
granites and contributes to its hardness. It is also
known as an excellent thermal and
electrical insulator. It has a position on the Mohs scale
of mineral hardness at a 9 out of 10 so the high levels
of this material in Ocean Red would make it nearly
indestructable in use as kitchen
surface, fireplace surround or flooring.

Technical Data
Weight in water : 55.32 gr /C
Weight Dry : 85.45 gr /A
Apparent Specific Gravity : 2.84 A/A -C
Water absorption : 0.18 B- A /A * 100
Specific Gravity Saturated : 2.83 B/B- C
Bulk Specific Gravity : 2.82 A/B-C

Ask for a quote for Ocean Red

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Quick Links...
Contact ISC - This helps me propose materials to my clients that I know are readily available and with good aesthetic qualities. Its important for me to be updated about not only what new stones are on the market also to see what material the quarries of well-known stones are turning out.
For example, it is currently possible to find beautiful Calacatta Oro, but the prices have shot up. And, it is hard to find high quality Botticino Classico right now, so I would recommend Botticino Semi-Classico to my clients.
On my recent trip to Carrara I visited some of Italy's best and most famous stone suppliers. Visit my Stone Gallery to see some of the most beautiful stones I discovered on this and other visits to suppliers around Italy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
New and Improved Stone Gallery

The images in my stone gallery have been updated to reflect the current selection of stone available and to showcase the new materials I have discovered.

The images in the gallery are all taken by me of slabs that I have seen. It also has a high level of calcite which makes it extremely sensitive to acids and even water. Alabaster is cleaned using either milk or talcum powder and a soft brush.Alabaster is beautiful when it is backlit due to its translucency. It is most often used for lamps, tables, niches, decorative bowls and handicrafts. Unlike marble, which is quarried in large square blocks, alabaster comes out of the mountain in egg-shaped boulders that are up to 1 meter in diameter.

Technical Data
Weight per unit of volume: 2,3 kg/dm³
Compression breaking load: max. 30 N/mm²
Compression breaking load after freezing: Not frost resistant

Ask about Italian Alabaster - Click here

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Santafiora Stone
Santafiora is a fine- to medium-grained, brown to red sandstone of the Lower Tertiary period. Uses: Construction stone, flooring, cladding, ornamental stone. This sandstone can even be polished due to its hardness.This stone comes from a very large quarry and is known for its consistency in color, texture and technical characteristics. It is a particularly hard stone with a high silica content which means it is ideal for cladding and flooring of large areas and buildings which are exposed to freezing temperatures, salty air/mist or seismic activity.
Technical Data
Weight per unit of volume: 2,70 kg/dm³
Bending strength: 12,6 N/mm²
Compression breaking load: 88,0 N/mm²
Abrasion resistance: 19,6 cm³/50 cm²
Absorption coefficient (by weight): 1,53%
For info about Santafiora, contact ISC
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Porphyry a.k.a. The chief characteristic of porphyry is a large difference between the size of the tiny matrix crystals and other much larger crystals, called phenocrysts.The name porphyry has Latin roots, meaning purple or purple-clad. Porphry has long been associated with royalty due to its "royal" purple color. Various roman emperors were emtombed in sarcophagi made of porphyry.
Porphyry is typically used in small cubes set in sand to form pavement. This is the "cobblestone" street that is commonly seen in many European cities.

Technical Data
Weight per unit of volume: 2,555 kg/m3
Compression breaking load: 221.5 Mpa
Compression breaking load after freezing: 202.6 MPa
Absorption coefficient (by weight): 6,53%
Ultimate tensile strength: 66.180 MPa
Impact test, min. fall height: 62cm
Thermal linear expansion coefficient: 5.55
Frictional wear test (relative to S. It is a granitic ortogneiss and the the largest grained of all the serizzo varieties. It has a mainly white-to-grey background with swirls of black biotite coloration.

It is perfect for all kinds of uses - both interior and exterior; including flooring, cladding, stairs, sills, countertops, tables, curbs, monuments and more.

Technical Data
Weight per unit of volume: 26.55 kN/m3
Compression breaking load: 158 Mpa
Compression breaking load after freezing: 158 MPa
Absorption coefficient (by weight): 3,88%
Ultimate tensile strength: 11.60 MPa
Impact test, min. fall height: 65cm
Thermal linear expansion coefficient: 13.20
Frictional wear test (relative): 0.90

For info about Monterosa Granite, contact ISC

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rosa Baveno Granite
Rosa Baveno is a mid to large grained granite which is homogenous in color and pattern. It is a coarse-grained, light grey granite of the Carboniferous/Devonian period. It's a very versatile stone due to its neutral color scheme, consistent pattern and frost resistance. It has been used as cladding on many important buildings around the world.
ISC has direct connections to the quarry and therefore offers the best prices, quality and availability.
Technical Data
Bending Strength: 12,3 - 14,2 N/mm²
Compressive Strength: 159 - 213 N/mm²
Water Absorption: 0,580 %
Apparent volume mass: 2,58 - 2,62 kg/dm³
Tensile load: 5,1 kN
Visit ISC's Gallery
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CE Mark for Stone - Standards in Europe
The CE logo, which stands for the French words 'Conformité Européenne' may seem familiar. It is typically found on electric devices, toys and appliances. Also, it has recently become compulsory in Italy for exterior-use stone products and roofing slates. In the near future, also cladding and flooring products as well as stone masonry units will be obbliged to carry to the CE mark in order to be exported without restriction in the EU.
To be able to carry the CE mark, stones must undergo the following lab tests:
* Flexing endurance (EN 12372)
* Atmospheric pressure water absorption (EN 13755)
* Apparent volume mass (EN 1936)
* Open porosity (EN 1936)
* Frost resistance and flexing endurance after 48 cycles (EN 12371)
* Slip resistance (EN 14231)
* Abrasion resistance (EN1341)
* Macroscopic rock description (EN 1341)
* Petrographic analysis (EN 12407)
Investing in the testing required to obtain the CE mark is one of the many ways that Italian stone suppliers are setting themselves apart in terms of guaranteeing the quality & safety of the stone they export.
Read a detailed article on European Standards for Stone Construction Products (pdf 491kb)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
.:NEW OFFERING:. It is a heat treatment applied to the stone which exaggerates any natural texture in the stone and at the same time closes its natural pores - making it resistant to liquid. It creates a somewhat rustic look, but less so than tumbled or antiqued stone.
In the photo above, you can see this finish on 6 different types of marble. It is made up of fossilized seaweed. This stone has two completely different looks depending on which direction it is cut, in this case, it is cross cut creating a pattern of circular spots, 1cm - 6cm in diameter. Cut along the vein, the slabs consist of parallel stripes, up to 50cm long and 1cm to 6cm. Within this stone, designers are happy to find colors ranging rose, to beige, to cherry red, to muted red. It takes a beautiful polish and can be cut with normal diamond blades for marble.
Technical Data
Average Density: 2.63-3.0 Gr/cm3
Resistance in dry conditions: up to 208 mpa
Water Absorption: 0.07-0.95%
Resistance Decrease when Saturated: 0.86-0.93%
Porosity: 1.7%
Resistance to compression (dry): 94mpa
Resistance to compression (wet): 83mpa
Abrasion Resistance: 1.62 Gr/cm3
Visit ISC's gallery
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Italian Lifestyle in the Emirates

ISC exhibited with Ro.Ni Marmi of Crespano del Grappa at the annual Italian Lifestyle in the Emirates fair in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
The four-day fair was a resounding sucess and Ro.Ni and ISC came home with new contacts from the booming building markets of Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Read more...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Quick Links...
Stone Gallery
More about the Stone Industry
About ISC
View a powerpoint presentation of ISC
Join our mailing list
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
web: http://www.stone-resource.com
Visit our site http://www.intlstoneconsultancy.com
